1823 George IIII Farthing.

Obverse

Laureate and draped bust of King George IV facing left, legend around.

Lettering: GEORGIUS IIII DEI GRATIA.

Translation: George the Fourth by the Grace of God

Engraver: Benedetto Pistrucci 

Reverse

Seated figure of Britannia facing right with lion at her feet,

Trident in left hand, shield with Union flag and olive branch in right.

Legend around, date in exergue.

Lettering:

The standard weight was one sixth ounce avoirdupois (72 11/12 grains) although can vary between 4.6-4.9g.

Obverse die varieties:

Obv 1 the leaf-midribs behind ear are single raised lines;
Obv 2 the three lowest leaves have incuse mid-ribs;

The production of copper coins did not resume until after George III’s death in 1820.

And the accession of King George IV (1820–1830).

Farthings were produced in 1821.

Britannia maintaining her place on the reverse.[18]

These pieces were made current by a proclamation of 14 November of that year.

Which made them legal tender to sixpence.[19]

Attracted strong royal dislike, but was used on the farthing in 1821 and in 1823–26.
